Pen + Paper Patterns’ Sparrows quilt pattern is whimsical and adorable, and Flownny’s Japanese floral cotton lawns give this version a lush and intricate botanical feel.

The Flownny prints are lightweight cotton lawn—finer and lighter than standard quilting cotton, with a smooth, soft hand and beautiful drape. They’re still 100% cotton and perfectly suited to quilting; the finished quilt just has a lighter, softer feel.

The background is a beautiful Lava Rock from Art Gallery Pure Solids, while accents are in Speckled and Speckled Metallic prints to add shimmering and textural surprises throughout.

🎯 Skill level
Confident Beginner. Sparrows uses conventional piecing, including half-square triangles and smaller details. There are a few small pieces to keep track of, but no unusual techniques required. If you are comfortable following a pattern and keeping small pieces organized, then you've got this. 

👉 They're adorable, but they're wild animals. Don't try to tame them. 

💡 Why this kit
Understory is a bit of a departure from the usual La Bizarra palette. Instead of neon brights and crisp mod contrast, the Flownny florals bring depth, texture, and a slightly mysterious otherworldly quality.

Lava Rock gives those intricate prints somewhere dramatic to land, while the metallic accents keep the quilt from becoming too serious. It's dark, but not gloomy, and full of details that will surprise and delight.
