Queen of the Pacific quilt

Custom Ocean-Inspired Modern Gradient Quilt

This queen-sized quilt was a custom order for a world-traveling couple who wanted a reminder of their roots in California, on the coast of the Pacific.

These are quilt collectors who value the craftsmanship and art form of all kinds of quilts, both modern and traditional. But the aesthetic of their home is modern/contemporary, so they have done well choosing both a modern design, bold and saturated hues, and modern printed and solid quilting cottons.

The colors are a gradient of marine blues and greens, with some oceanic prints mixed in. The top is not trimmed into a straight line like the bottom, so there's a decorative serrated edge at the top that echoes the tops of the jagged wave lines throughout.

The pattern used on this quilt is called New Wave, by a designer named Elizabeth Hartman, and has a fun, modern vibe, especially in the chosen colors.

It was difficult to get a good quilt photo of this one (it's always difficult to capture a quilt), because it was such a windy, overcast day on the actual Pacific coast, so the photo shoot eventually moved indoors. To see more pics, visit the Bespoke Quilt Gallery.
