Onomatopoeia! Confetti Hearts Quilts

Another round of pattern testing for Morgan over at Modernly Morgan! This time the testing yielded two very successful baby quilts with two very different vibes.

This adorable pattern features a shooting star sort of block, but with a heart instead of a star. A heart comet. I originally picked out all neon fabrics to go with some beautiful prismatic Alison Glass ex libris prints that I wanted to use on the hearts. Then I wondered if the intention was for this to be a rainbow quilt pattern, and I thought I better make a lovely muted rainbow version, just in case.

So the POP! confetti heart quilt and the Shhh! confetti heart quilt came to be. What colors should I use next? Should it be a ZIP!? or a MEOW!? or maybe I need to make a KERPLUNK! confetti heart quilt. The onomatopoetic options are infinite.

The POP! came out even better than I had pictured. All that neon somehow works together. Who knew? I even got to use the neon thread that has been glowing in my thread collection for awhile, waiting for its time to (literally) shine. I took it downtown and had my kids hold it up in front of this incredibly cool abstract mural by Etta Vee and an art collective known as Ladies Who Paint. It was such a complementary pairing!

The Shhh! Confetti Heart quilt uses a fun jungle print from Rifle Paper Co. in two different colors for the hearts, and the muted (for me) rainbow is made up of prints designed by Elizabeth Hartman that are mostly nature-inspired. The background is a metallic gold star print, also from Rifle Paper Co. The whole thing is dreamy and ethereal and sweet. Perfect for a nursery.

This is a beautiful pattern, as is always the case with Morgan’s patterns. If you’d like to purchase the pattern to make, visit Modernly Morgan. If you’d like to purchase these quilts, they are now in the Handmade Shop. If you’d like a custom version of this quilt, contact me.
